Ten Year Old Tom outfit behind 10-part comedy Conquest
ITV Studios-backed Work Friends has scored an adult animation from Netflix, Broadcast can reveal.
The indie is in production with 10-part adventure comedy Conquest, its debut commission for the streamer.
Conquest is a “two-hander between a white mother and her mixed-race son”, a source told Broadcast, with the duo bonding during a global adventure. “It is partly inspired by Indiana Jones, with similarities to the way in which Ricky and Morty helped Back to the Future,” they said.
Within this framework, the animation “deals with a lot of the key topics of the day” – such as identity politics and generational rifts.
Work Friends’ chief Nick Weidenfeld, whose credits include The Boondocks and Robot Chicken, will exec produce having set up the business in partnership with Snowpiercer indie Tomorrow Studios last year. The first animation outfit from ITVS US, it also produces HBO Max original Ten Year Old Tom.
Created by Steve Dildarian, the animation was recently recommissioned by the Warner Bros Discovery-owned streamer.
Conquest will join a growing roster of animation for Netflix including Bojack Horseman, Big Mouth, F is for Family, Hoops, Disenchantment, Human Resources, Paradise PD, Chicago Party Aunt and Q-Force.
Work Friends and Netflix declined to comment.
