Latest adaptation of US author’s books comes as Nicola Shindler nears exit from producer Red

Harlan Coben’s Stay Close has been greenlit as the author’s latest Netflix adaptation from Red Production Company and Nicola Shindler’s final project.
Following in the footsteps of Netflix adaptations of Coben’s The Stranger and Safe, the US author will once again adapt his story with Danny Brocklehurst, with Shindler exec producing alongside Richard Fee.
Shindler is soon to depart Red, which she founded in 1998, to set up her own ITV Studios label and Stay Close will likely serve as her final project. She is also exec-ing ITV drama No Return, which is also being written by Brocklehurst.

Stay Close follows three key characters, whose dark secrets resurface, setting off a chain of events that threatens to destroy their lives.
Cush Jumbo, James Nesbitt and Stranger star Richard Armitage are to take the lead roles in the adaptation.
In keeping with previous Coben adaptations, Netflix will relocate the story from the US to UK.
“Working with Harlan, Danny and Richard is a joy as we push each other for more bingeable ideas and twists,” said Shindler. “Harlan’s books and stories are a pleasure to bring to the screen.”
Shindler’s place at the Red helm has now been taken by former Fremantle global drama chief Sarah Doole.
