BBC Technology was sold to German engineering firm Siemens last Friday and will be renamed Siemens Business Services Media Holdings Ltd. Siemens Business Services will work closely with the BBC Technology Direction group, which is responsible for developing the BBC's technology strategy across the corporation for the duration of the£2bn, 10-year deal that Siemens signed with the BBC last week. As part of the deal, Siemens Business Services will also provide the skills, expertise and investment to support the BBC's technology vision. This vision aims to put creative tools on desktop computers in the BBC by the end of the decade. The Technology Direction Group has stated its aim to migrate the BBC to achieving tapeless and high-definition production by 2010.
