Presenter Jaydee Dyer joined the latest edition of the Broadcast Sport Podcast, and among other topics he discussed what the UK and US broadcasting sectors could learn from each other.

Dyer, who is represented by CAA Sports, who represent over 3,000 of the world’s top athletes, in addition to coaches, on-air broadcasters and sports personalities, has worked extensively in both markets for the likes of Sky Sports, TNT Sports, Prime Video and CBS, among others.

Given his experience across the US and UK, Dyer believes the two countries can learn from each other in the broadcasting space, noting that, “There is a massive difference,” in how they approach it.

He said, “The UK is an interesting place, and I still believe that as a broadcasting landscape it has a lot of things that it needs to work on, but it still holds weight to traditional broadcasting. There’s still a value on someone who spent 20, 30 years in the field.”

“That’s what the UK is great at, and if you can find the right person they’re going to want to help you and elevate you.”

Before adding, “The US is where you go to have fun and express yourself.”

“It really does tap into one of the components of the broadcasting space that I think is almost forgotten, this is entertainment. This is supposed to be an enjoyable thing. I would hope that anybody that watches any of my broadcasts goes away and says, ‘I enjoyed the way that young man decided he wanted to do that.’”

“The UK could really do well in enhancing the enjoyment part a little bit better and the US could do a little bit better at getting those traditional structures and making sure the ladder is conducive to bringing the next person up.”

Dyer spoke more on this subject in the podcast, which you can listen to below, and also expanded on how presenters on live sport now need to take into account how they’re content will be clipped for social media, using the example of his recent interview with NBA star Victor Wembanyama which has reached millions of views on Instagram. Other topics included his career journey, and tips for modern sport presenters.
