Tool allows volumetric FX in Unreal Engine and Houdini to be compressed by 97%

Zibra AI VDB

Zibra AI has made its real-time VFX compression and rendering tool ZibraVDB free for indies.

This allows users to create volumetric FX such as smoke columns, rolling fog, pyro outbursts, dust, clouds, magical whisps, and atmospherics in Houdini, and then transfer them to Unreal Engine to see them as part of a scene seconds later.

These assets can be used in cinematic productions, or for virtual production set up. It also has use cases in gaming.

ZibraVDB was originally launched in September 2024, and claims to compress by 97%, for examples turning a 2GB file into 50MB. It has been released on hundreds of student licences in addition to the indie offer, and is used professionally by the likes of Dimension.

Indies can access the tool through the Zibra AI website.
