It will deliver live coverage of the creator-led football competition, combining traditional broadcast cameras with iPhones on private 5G and roaming gimbals
Aurora Media Worldwide has been appointed host broadcaster of Baller League UK. It will deliver live coverage of the creator-led football competition from its new home at Eastbrook Studios in Dagenham.
The Baller League UK features creators and personalities including KSI, Niko Omilana, Micah Richards, Chloe Kelly, Mark Goldbridge and Jay-Jay Okocha.
Baller League isn’t conventional football and Aurora says it has developed a production approach to match, combining traditional match coverage with iPhones on private 5G, roaming cameras and unusual angles designed to capture everything happening on and off the pitch.
Conventional broadcast cameras, including a box-lens camera capable of super slow-motion coverage, deliver the main match action. These are complemented by iPhones connected over private 5G, Sony FX3s on gimbals and remotely operated cameras.
The iPhones capture footage inside goals, changing rooms, bars and streamer booths, filming the reactions and unexpected moments that make Baller League different.
Meanwhile, roaming FX3 cameras free presenters from a conventional studio, enabling them to host from the pitch, among fans or wherever the story takes them.
Baller League’s permanent home at Eastbrook Studios provides further opportunities to experiment. A Sony FR7 mounted on the lighting rig delivers an overhead view of the centre circle, while a dedicated commentary camera brings streamer-style reactions into the broadcast. Drone coverage was also introduced for the opening matchday.
Behind the scenes, a remote production workflow supported by Vivid Broadcast from its remote facility in Woking combines the capabilities of a full-scale production centre with a small on-site team in Dagenham.
Barry Flanigan, chief strategy officer at Aurora, said: “Baller League is a brilliant example of how sport and entertainment are coming together in new ways. It’s creator-first, full of personality and doesn’t follow the conventions of traditional football, so why should the broadcast?
“We wanted to build something that matches that energy, using technology creatively to put cameras and presenters wherever the action is. It’s about combining the best of live sports production with the freedom and spontaneity of creator-led content, and we’re excited about how we can keep developing the coverage throughout the season.”
Baller League UK strems every Monday live on its YouTube channel.
