Aurora has created a “North-South” remote production workflow for its work with the WSL.

The production company has just completed its first year working with the women’s football league, delivering more than 300 live matches across the WSL, WSL2 and Women’s League Cup, over 500 digital highlights packages, 22 weekly highlights programmes for the BBC, and more than 200 original films and social-first features.

It also worked on brand partner activations, live stream coverage of all WSL fixtures not shown by Sky Sports or the BBC as well as live streams of every WSL2 game on YouTube, and the world feed.

At the heart of this was a new production workflow with cloud-based remote production infrastructure and expanded digital storytelling.

Aurora operated from remote production hubs in Woking, in partnership with Vivid Broadcast, and in Leeds, in partnership with Sticks & Glass, producing all live coverage of the WSL, WSL2, and Women’s League Cup. This “North-South” model aims to support regional production capability, local workforce growth and emerging broadcast talent, and saw the creation of new OB trucks, MCR, remote galleries, studio and edit facilities to house the production. In addition, Hyper Studios provided graphics with a mixture of cloud and on-prem solutions.
