A sms text-based reality TV show could be the next big money spinner, according to a panel at the Edinburgh TV Festival, writes Sam Espensen.

In a session entitled I'm a Viewer, Get More out of Me, chief executive of RDF David Frank predicted that "in the next 18 months there will be a successful show based entirely on SMS".

The panel agreed that mobile phones will play a much bigger role in the future of reality TV.

John Watts, a partner at Fathom, cited GMTV as an example of SMS success, with the show attaining£150,000 a day via text revenue.
