Red Digital Cinema is increasing the workflow options for its new Epic and Scarlet digital film cameras by introducing proxy modules, including one for encoding H.264.

The first incarnation encodes a 1080p stream and records to Compact Flash in a rear-mounted module.

It also offers secure password protected streaming over dedicated WiFi and ethernet to Apple iPhones and iPads and laptops as well as broadcast to the internet.

Red hopes the development will be useful for on set viewing, instant dailies, offline editing, file transfer to remote locations, dailies review and collaboration services.

The modules, which will also support full metadata and XML for editorial, will be available from September 2010. They are expected to cost around $2500.

Red has also announced that it is now taking orders for the Epic camera. This second stage of the availability programme includes current Red One owners.
