Red Digital Cinema will launch its first operation outside the US when it opens a support facility at Pinewood Studios next week.

Serving its European customer base, the new Red office will provide upgrades, servicing and repairs.

Red Digital Cinema makes digital cinematography cameras and accessories including the Red One which has a 12 megapixel Super-35 sized sensor capable of recording 4k pictures.

"Outside of the US, the European market is Red's largest,” said Alan Piper of Red Europe. “We felt that there was no better place to headquarter the facility than in Pinewood, one of the most important centres for film and television production in Europe.”

Carl Ward will be in charge of operations while head field tech Ivan Kadlec will oversee technical functions.

As a result of the new office, other Pinewood based service providers are getting ready to support Red users.

Apple reseller 1080 Pro is offering Final Cut Pro-based workstations to manage Red workflows while Sequence Post is creating a facility entirely dedicated to Red-acquired rushes.

Red Europe will open at Eastside Complex, Pinewood Studios on 1 November 2008.
