NAB 2015: Ross Video has launched the Carbonite Black, a new addition to its range of vision mixers.

With three full MEs with four keyers and 36 inputs and 22 outputs, the UHD-capable vision mixer will sit between the firm’s existing Carbonite and Acuity products.

The 2RU Carbonite Black will accept all current signal formats, including 3G/1080P 50/59.94 and quad UHD.

“When we introduced Carbonite, it became an instant hit as it completely changed the price and performance model for 1 and 2 ME production switchers. Carbonite Black is designed to do the same thing, but for productions that require larger I/O or 3 MEs,” said Ross marketing product manager Nigel Spratling.

“Carbonite Black not only looks fantastic, but has more production features and performance than any other product available at this price point. We know that customers will really like this product – and it’s what many of them have been asking us for.”

Carbonite Black will begin shipping in July.

Ross acquires Rocket

Speaking at the company’s press conference today, chief executive David Ross announced that the company had made a “small but important” acquisition of Rocket Surgery Design Services – a broadcast graphics design firm.

The deal is Ross’s tenth acquisition in six years.

Rocket Surgery’s founder and ‘mission commander’ Jim Doyle is joining Ross and will head up the company’s Creative Services Group as director of creative and technical services.

Ross Creative Services takes on graphic design projects for Ross clients including broadcasters andsports teams.

Ross also launched Inception Live, a browser-based live event production planning, scripting and social media tool for sports, concerts and other live events.

Inception marketing product manager Shawn Snider said: “Many of our stadium clients are still using Excel spread sheets or other basic systems to plan and execute their game day productions.

“We realised that with a few feature additions that Inception, already in use by many of these clients to manage social media workflows, would make a great game day planning and management tool and offer significant advantages over the current way of doing things.”

Inception Live will be available from June.
