RR Media has completed the restoration of Aardman series The Amazing Adventures of Morph.

The remastered series launched on YouTube following a Kickstarter crowdfunder campaign that raised over £110,000 and part-funded a new series of Morph which premiered on YouTube in 2014.

Marcus Gage of RR Media Europe said one of the challenges of the restoration project was the lack of original negatives. To overcome it, RR Media worked off prints from the BBC archive.

He said: “We then scanned the 16mm and put the series through automated and hand de-spotting before grading and putting the output into HD.

“To ensure we got the colour absolutely right we had actual pieces of Morph’s actual modeling clay as a reference point in the studios.”

Gage added: “What a privilege and responsibility it was to be able to restore such a loved character. When we began researching this project, it was clear that we had to get it absolutely right.

“The strength of the connection between Morph and his legions of fans, old and new, is very powerful.”
