Sky 1 is developing a feature-length fantasy drama based on Jasper Fforde’s novel The Last Dragonslayer as it hunts its own Game of Thrones.

Dragonslayer

The pay-TV broadcaster is working with British producer Blueprint on the 120-minute project, which is being written by Tom Edge, who created Channel 4 comedy Scrotal Recall and has writer credits on series including E4’s The Midnight Beast and BBC3’s Threesome.

The Last Dragonslayer is based in a world in which magic exists in a weakened state and has been replaced with modern technology - drain cleaner is cheaper to use than a spell while magic carpets are being used for pizza deliveries. The story follows 15-year old Jennifer Strange, who runs Kazam, a struggling employment agency for magicians, who discovers that the world’s last dragon is being hunted by an unnamed dragonslayer.

The book, which is part of the Chronicles of Kazam series, was written by Fforde, who spent 20 years in the film business before moving into novels.

The drama, which was revealed by Broadcast sister directory The Knowledge, is expected to go into production later this year.
