Motion capture facility Studio 7 has invested £50,000 on a new virtual camera system and motion capture kit.

The subsidiary firm of Shoreditch-based production outfit Atticus Finch took delivery of the motion capture system last week, including full body system, face capture and a data glove for capturing finger movement.

“The motion capture set up to allows animation companies, production outfits and games firms to use an affordable facility for all types of motion capture,” said managing director Chris Richmond.

“It seemed like there was an opportunity in central London as most [motion capture facilities] are positioned outside central London,” he said.

The virtual camera system from US-based Natural Point is based around a Redrock Micro rig which feeds data into Autodesk MotionBuilder.

“It’s early days but so far we have used it for a few music videos, games companies and to produce some content for the internet,” Richmond said.

“We’re also getting a reasonable amount of interest from other sectors, with a few animation firms investigating it.”
