OB company Telegenic has ploughed £5m into building a new HD scanner to service its increasing portfolio of sports contracts.

The unit, due to hit the road in August, will be built from scratch and will bring Telegenic's total fleet of scanners to five.

It will be kitted out with 25 Sony HDC1500 cameras and 10 EVS recording machines for replays in live shows and quick turnaround VT recording. Telegenic currently has contracts to provide OB facilities to Sky for the Premiership, Rugby Union, Rugby League, Champions League away games and Masters football. It has not been decided which contracts the new truck will be used for.

The spend is the latest in a spate of investments by OBs on HD this year. Most recently, BBC outside broadcasts ploughed an estimated £1m into upgrading to HD in preparation for the World Cup and Wimbledon ( Broadcast, 12.4.06).
