The IT Crowd creator Graham Linehan plans to pull together a team of writers for a planned fifth series of the Channel 4 comedy.
At a Bafta preview of the upcoming fourth series last night, Linehan said a fifth series had been greenlit before filming even wrapped on the current run.
Linehan has written every one of the 24 episodes to date, but has previously worked largely in collaboration.
He co-created Paris and Father Ted with Arthur Mathews and the pair also wrote for sketch shows such as Big Train and The Day Today.
Linehan co-wrote every episode of series one of Black Books with star Dylan Moran before handing the reins to other writers including Kevin Cecil and Andy Riley for the second and third series.
C4 has yet to confirm the writers who will join the team on The IT Crowd, which is produced by Delightful Industries, the indie label that Linehan runs through Talkback Thames.
Series four is set to air on C4 this summer.
