“Worthy work, but not a compelling watch”

Love Con Revenge

Love Con Revenge, Netflix

“There is much to unpack about systemic misogyny and the dismissal of women’s stories and the crimes against them, but Love Con Revenge is more interested in action than attitudes or the reasons behind them. Which is unfortunate because, in truth, there is not much action, at least of the televisual kind, involved in tracking down missing men and handing over dossiers of evidence to the police that mostly comprise documents provided by other victims of the potential scammers, or links found by tapping away at laptops for hours. Worthy work, but not a compelling watch.”

The Paper, Sky Max

“The fatal mistake the show makes is assuming we find the characters lovable and whimsical, while providing them with far too few moments to make us laugh. Apart from the odd tortured word gag, the moments of comedy are vanishingly rare. When the show forces the characters into something approaching a comic scenario it allows the gifted cast to shine. Otherwise, it’s a tepid mockumentary about a gaggle of cutesy weirdos.”
