“A half-decent cat-and-mouse has to work very hard not to grab you, and Prisoner is too well-built to fail completely”

Prisoner, Sky Atlantic

“Asking whether a show like Prisoner is for you is a bit like asking how you like your eggs. This isn’t soft-boiled (like, say, Beyond Paradise) or hard-boiled (Half Man), rather it’s a straight-down-the-line omelette so hot it’s on fire. And falling in the Line of Duty wheelhouse, it works, partly thanks to the committed performances from Izuka Hoyle as the transport officer, Amber Todd — having the worst first day back from maternity leave in history — and a gravelly Tahar Rahim (him from The Serpent) as Tibor Stone, the assassin to whom she’s shackled.”
James Jackson, The Times

“A half-decent cat-and-mouse has to work very hard not to grab you, and Prisoner is too well-built to fail completely. How are they going to get out of this hole this time is a question that has sustained many a worse pot-boiler than this, and if you start episode one, you’ll do well not to push on to episode six (and see if they nail the b—–d). As for this viewer, the question that sustained me through episodes one to three, which strangely are much weaker than the second half, was what happened when they needed to go number two? Amber and Tibor are handcuffed together for the first three hours, it’s a pretty tense environment and good drama is about putting yourselves in the characters’ shoes. I couldn’t let it go.”
Benji Wilson, Telegraph

“So, well, Prisoner is stupid. It’s fun. But cor – is it stupid. By which I mean that if the new six-part action thriller about a prisoner and his escorting guard being handcuffed together and on the run was a person, you’d think – cor, they’re stupid, but unchallenging and pleasant enough company. Maybe I’ll stick around. Maybe I won’t. You would think something very much along those lines.”

The House Of The Spirits, Prime Video

” I have to admit I’m disappointed, because The House Of The Spirits is one of my favourite books and I’d love to see television do it justice. But I can’t say I’m surprised, and the remnants of the novel that survive are enjoyable.”
Christopher Stevens, Daily Mail
