Two UK kit hire specialists have formed separate consortiums and will compete for the lucrative broadcast services work available during next year's summer Olympics in Athens, writes Sam Espensen.

Video Europe and Gearhouse Broadcast will be hoping to secure work from the 12,000 accredited broadcasters that are expected in Greece next year.

Video Europe has formed ISTS (International Sports Television Services) with an Athens-based live events and production company, PPV, and broadcast specialists Woods TV and BT Broadcast. Gearhouse has launched Athens Broadcast Services with Greek company Stefi Productions and satellite uplink specialist Globecast. They will offer a variety of services including ENG units, multi-camera digital studios and edit suites.

Both consortiums aim to provide services to non-rights holders at the games, and are keen to point out that they are not an official Olympics supplier.

They are both based close to the IBC (International Broadcasting Centre) in Athens, which for two months will be the world's largest broadcast centre.
