London kit hire and studio facility Video Europe has invested£1.5m in OB trucks and kit for its new events division.
VE Projects, which covers international sports events and multi-camera de-rigs, is headed by Richard Le Motte who told Broadcast that£1m has been spent buying flyaway kit to cater for "technical facilities for the production of international sport. We won a contract last year to supply TWI with the equipment for the Australian cricket tour of the West Indies in April and this inspired us to take it further."
The company has also invested£500,000 in two small OB trucks from Leeds-based system designer E to E. One will be a production vehicle with eight cameras, a Sony vision mixer and a Calrec sound desk. The other will be a VT/edit truck housing a Sony BVE 9100 edit system. Delivery is set for April and Le Motte said that through Video Europe's studios in Wandsworth he was getting a lot of requests for multi-camera work that required a small OB unit.
Meanwhile Video Europe's Golden Square office, which dry hires Avids and camera kit, is to be moved to larger premises in Berners Street.
