VMI Broadcast has announced that it is expanding into HD with an investment of£850,000 in equipment, a move which it claimed makes it the biggest HD hire specialist in the UK, writes Sam Espensen.

Managing director Barry Bassett said he saw "two distinct advantages of HD over SD; enhanced picture quality and a more cost-effective way of shooting than film. It is gradually becoming the norm for shooting and editing."

The investment has been spent on an Avid DS Nitris HD suite, five Sony HD W750P cameras, 10 Canon zoom film and video lenses, four Sony VTRs and a JVC HD video projector.
