Avid has released new pricing options for Pro Tools including a free version of the audio software.

The “streamlined” version of Pro Tools saves and manages sessions in the cloud, enabled by the Avid MediaCentral Platform.

Users will be able to log into an Avid account and access and work on music from a Mac or PC with Pro Tools First installed.

An introductory offer will allow artists to work on and store up to three Pro Tools First projects in the cloud for free.

AAX plug ins will be available from the integrated Avid App Store.

Pro Tools First will also be compatible with Avid Cloud Collaboration when it becomes available.

Avid senior vice president of products and technology Chris Gahagan said: “With Pro Tools First, we’ve taken the most powerful, proven, and trusted DAW (digital audio workflow) and streamlined it into a version that’s available to everyone for free, whether they dream of a career in music and are just starting out, or are more experienced and want to give Pro Tools a try.

“Now users of all levels can start off their musical journey on the right path.”

Pro Tools 12 will also be available from $29.99 (approximately £19) per month. An annual annual upgrade plan including 12 months of updates and support starts at $199.

An annual subscription starts at $299. A perpetual license, including 12 months of updates and support, starts at $899

Pro Tools users will also be the first Avid customers to use the firm’s Avid Cloud Collaboration platform.

It will allow them to work with other Pro Tools users to compose, record, edit, and mix sessions in the cloud.

If the person they want to work with doesn’t have Pro Tools the free version of the software can be downloaded and used.

Pro Tools software subscription and licensing options will be available in February.
