BBC Engineering is undertaking proof-of-concept trials for a live IPbased production infrastructure that could be used at the new Wales Broadcasting House in Cardiff.

Working in collaboration with BBC Wales, BBC Northern Ireland and BBC R&D, the tests are designed to “help inform and de-risk the delivery of the project, helping to identify the LAN architecture required to support a packetbased live production approach”.

The intention is that the work will allow for the development of a future-proof IP base that can also support office applications.

Technical trials are taking place in a small remote news studio to simulate a live production environment.

A paper study of the IP roadmaps from suppliers is also being carried out. The work is expected to run until at least the end of December. Construction will start on BBC Wales’ new headquarters in Central Square in Cardiff city centre next week. It is due to open in 2019.
