Splice is the first post-production house to become an albert affiliate. The albert scheme, which Bafta first launched in 2011, supports the UK production and broadcast industry’s transition to environmental sustainability.

Albert affiliate companies are defined as those “taking albert’s message to their communities; strengthening our voice, challenging us to achieve more and putting sustainable production into practice.” There are 23 albert Affiliated organisations listed on the wearealbert.org website, with the vast majority being production companies. Splice is the only post-production house currently on the list. Affiliate companies benefit from supported use of albert’s tools, free access to training and are informed of, and able to contribute to, all albert-related projects and initiatives.

As part of its relationship with albert, Splice has utilised albert’s Creative Energy scheme to move to 100% renewable energy for both its buildings - in Shoreditch and Old Street - reducing its electricity footprint to zero. Splice has also become paperless internally, using DocuSign for all contracts, invoices and internal documents. It is also using the cloud-based HR Platform, Charlie HR, for all personnel files, internal policy documents, holiday requests and approvals and payroll information. It is using email pay slips and has even gone so far as to have banned Post-It notes.

Furthermore, plastic cups are banned and Splice has created a ‘Green Team’ to encourage best practice within the company. Each team member also has their own sustainability research project.

“We are well aware our industry has a major environmental impact and we want to be part of the solution, not part of the problem,” said Kate Higham, Facilities Director at Splice. “To that end, joining albert, which shares our values is a major step forward in implementing our own initiatives and, in turn, we are working with our clients to help them on their own sustainability journey.”
