The BBC is evaluating the commercial potential of its digital media initiative (DMI) workflow, known as Fabric.

BBC North controller of production Mark Harrison said: “It is bespoke to the BBC, but if it is concluded that it can be of benefit to other organisations then we would look at [selling it].”

“It is an incredible piece of technology that has taken many years to deliver and is not entirely cheap. The first users are in Salford, and they are using a light version,” Harrison added.

In June the BBC outsourced some aspects of the DMI project.
