The Queen in 3D

Stereoscopic 3D footage from the 1953 coronation restored by Can Communicate for Channel 4’s 3D week and a special screening at the BFI.

What was the challenge? Eliminate artefacts and flickering - caused by speed variations between the two mechanical cameras - but maintain the artistic elements of the original shoot.

How was it done? A 2K Spirit telecine scan was made of the left and right eye negative before files were imported into a Quantel iQ Pablo. Once there, the integration with eMotion Engines’ motion estimation software allowed the footage to be automatically de-blotched and de-flickered.
