Canon’s C500 camera will ship towards the end of October.

Originally unveiled in April at NAB, the C500 shoots 4K images as RAW data using an external recording device.

Canon said four new lenses which will offer sufficient resolution for 4K production will ship by the end of the year.

Two wide-angle cinema zoom lenses, the CN-E15.5-47mm T2.8 L S (EF mount) and CN-E15.5-47mm T2.8 L SP (PL mount) will be available from December.

Two telephoto cinema zoom lenses, the CN-E30-105mm T2.8 L S (EF) and CN-E30-105mm T2.8 L SP (PL) will be available in October.

The C500 completes Canon’s “strongest-ever professional video lineup,” according to Canon Europe Professional Imaging marketing director Kieran Magee.

He said: “With the EOS C500 and our new cinema zoom lenses, as well as the new EOS C100, we’re extending the range to meet the needs of an even wider range of users – from independent users through to cinematographers.”
