AP Global Media Services, the video news-gathering facilities arm of The Associated Press (AP), is to launch a new studio and production space in the heart of central London.

The broadcast facility will comprise four HD-capable studios overlooking some of London’s most recognisable landmarks, including the Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square and the London Eye.

The studios, two of which will be multi-camera, will also feature editing facilities and high-speed fibre transmission links to AP’s global, satellite and fibre network.

AP Global Media Services director Alla Salehian said: “These studios represent a huge vote of confidence in the industry by AP. Broadcasters and the viewing public will be treated to vistas of central London they have never seen before.”

Salehian predicted that broadcasters and production companies from the UK and abroad would use the facility to produce and anchor regular strands and oneoff programmes.

The studios will transmit both HD and SD live video signals and will provide purpose-built dressing room and make-up facilities.

They are being designed and constructed by WTS Broadcast and should be fully operational by May.
