Arqiva has won a five year contract to uplink and playout the Urban TV channel to the Sky satellite platform.

Arqiva provides uplink and space on the Eurobird satellite for Urban TV's 3mb/s channel, as well as managed playout from Arqiva's Chalfont Grove MCR facility.

Urban TV chief operating officer Paul Kalwa explained the company's decision to sign a five year contract with Arqiva.

He said: “I have overseen the launch of eleven television channels and was impressed by the efficient way in which Arqiva responded to our needs [in November]. The team took everything in their stride, prioritising our requirements and acting on them.”

Urban TV went live in November 2007. In order to meet the channel's designated launch date, uplink and playout was arranged with Arqiva in just five days.

Urban TV aims to cater for a broad audience interested in urban style, including music, film and fashion.
