IBC 2016: Arqiva has launched its Pop-Up Playout service, a cloud-orchestrated offering for the distribution of linear TV channels.
It uses public cloud technologies and software from some unnamed manufacturers integrated with Arqiva’s own suite of media services. It is Arqiva’s first virtualised service.
Arqiva said the service, which can be delivered via fibre, satellite, IP or OTT, would help to answer an increasing market demand for virtualisation.
A test with an unnamed international broadcaster will take place later this year, with the service due to be rolled out during the first quarter of 2017.
Arqiva commercial director of satellite and media Alex Pannell said: “Making the move to a virtualised environment is a topic that has come up time and time again when talking to our customers, and, once launched, we see the service having a rapid and wide evolution in terms of its use – opening up opportunities for sports rights providers, live event hosts and many more.”
Arqiva is demonstrating its Pop-up Playout service at IBC.
