Arri last week unveiled the modular Alexa M camera, the latest addition to its Alexa range.

With a separate camera head and body, it is designed for action photography, tight corner shots and 3D productions.

The first systems to be made available in September 2011 will be used by the recently formed James Cameron and Vince Pace joint venture for use on their 3D projects.

The weight of the head is approximately 2.5 kg. It offers fiber optic interface between front end and back end, while power is supplied over fiber or copper cable or local power supply. It has multiple 3/8-16 and M4 mounting points on top and bottom and a PL-mount.

Working prototypes will be exhibited at IBC in September.
