Avid has released version six of Media Composer, with the software rebuilt as a 64-bit application to improve performance.

It also features a tabbed interface, with separate windows for bins and effects brought together into one.

“It’s a more contemporary way of working,” Avid marketing manager, professional segment, Angus Mackay told Broadcast. “This release is important for Avid and for customers who have been the driving force for our development.”

A software development agreement with AJA, Blackmagic Design, Blue Fish and MOTU should also lead to a wider range of hardware choices for Media Composer users.

The software, which will begin shipping on 15 November, is priced from £205 for upgrades, with Media Composer 6 and NewsCutter 10 both priced at £1,714. Symphony 6 will cost £4,115, with Nitris DX priced at £3,772.

Media Composer 6 and Pro Tools 10 will make their UK debuts at BVE North next month.
