BBC post-production has invested in a new audio suite in Bristol for drama and wildlife documentaries, writes Sam Espensen.

The introduction of the theatre, which will also be available to other clients, means that all of the post for Casualty can now be done at Bristol. A second theatre will be refurbished allowing more space for series such as Bargain Hunt, as well as wildlife documentaries.

The two theatres will be equipped with AMS Neve MMC consoles with Foley facilities. A third, smaller theatre will have a sound booth installed. An additional track lay area will also be introduced. All areas will have an Audiofile SC star network that allows files to be shared between theatres and track-laying areas.

The investment signalled the BBC's need for superior sound quality for programmes that are going onto DVD, cinema or high definition formats.
