BBC Studios and Post Production has temporarily upgraded a fourth studio to HD to support 12 Yard’s BBC2 gameshow, Eggheads.

Studio Three will hire eight Sony 1500 HD cameras and a vision mixer and matrix to support the programme, which is moving to HD for its 11th series.

The second series of spin-off Are You an Egghead? will also be made in HD and intended for TX on BBC HD, which is increasing its output to nine hours per day this year.

The studio upgrade is necessary because the BBC’s three existing all-HD studios at Television Centre are booked when filming on Eggheads commences later this month. They are busy with the HD shoots for Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, BBC1’s new entertainment show Totally Saturday and 8 Out of 10 Cats, made by Endemol for Channel 4.

Eggheads will move to the BBC’s Glasgow studios later this year.
