BBC Studios Productions has appointed Vice Studios UK president Jamie Hall to take up the role of managing director for scripted, Broadcast can reveal.

Hall will take over from Mark Linsey who, as Broadcast International revealed in July, will fully focus on expanding the company’s scripted footprint in the US as BBCS Productions’ president of LA scripted.

He will be responsible for shaping the creative and commercial strategy across a slate that includes UK mainstays like BBC1’s EastEnders, Silent Witness and Doctor Who, as well as tentpole originals such as Netflix’s Baby Reindeer and BBC1’s Time and Happy Valley.

Hall will collaborate with creative leads in the in-house Drama and Fiction & Comedy teams and owned labels Lookout Point, Baby Cow, Firebird Pictures, House Productions, Sid Gentle Films and Clerkenwell Films, to win commissions and optimise rights and funding models.

He will also work to deepen partnerships with global buyers including the BBC, Netflix, Apple TV+, HBO, Amazon and Disney, ensuring BBCS remains a leading supplier in the international marketplace.

Before his most recent UK-focused Vice role, Hall had been co-president of the restructured global content studio Vice Studios, heading up production and distribution and overseeing five production entities including Pulse Films, which he also headed up as chief operating officer.

He was initially co-president alongside Danny Gabai before former Paramount TV president Amy Powell took over as Vice Studios president this summer, with Gabai moving into a production deal.

The Pulse brand is now focused on commercial and music video production, with scripted and unscripted output falling under the Vice Studios UK banner, both of which Powell is overseeing.

Hall is the former chief operating officer at Big Light Productions, head of production and commercial affairs at Eleven Film, and group head of production at Lime Pictures, and has credits on major scripted shows including high-end Sky returner Gangs of London, The Man in the High Castle for Prime Video, Channel 4’s Glue, Hollyoaks (E4) and Grange Hill (BBC1).

Bennett said: “Jamie’s a dynamic and respected leader with a proven track record across the scripted landscape. His breadth of experience and passion for storytelling make him the ideal person to lead our scripted teams into the next chapter as we continue to evolve as a global leader in scripted content.”

Hall added: “BBC Studios is an unrivalled destination of creativity and ambition and I’m honoured to join the team at such an important time in its journey.

“The producers and labels in the studio are second to none and I’m thrilled to work with them through this exciting period of change and commercial opportunity.”
