The sale of BBC Technology to German firm Siemens is expected to be completed by the end of next month after the main areas of contention with broadcasting union Bectu were resolved. Bectu had threatened strike action over the sale but now says that, despite still being opposed to it in principle, most of its main concerns on issues such as pensions have been dealt with. Bectu, the BBC and Siemens met on Monday (23 August) to discuss fringe issues, where there are still some differences. Union representatives are due to meet the BBC and Siemens again before lobbying the Department for Culture, Media and Sport on 13 September. The government is expected to give the sale the green light later next month.
