Weekly show Cut Through the Noise launches in the US later this year
BBC News has been commissioned to produce Facebook Watch’s first non-US news show.
Mobile show Cut Through the Noise will launch later this year in the US, tackling a different issue each week.
Using Facebook Live and vertical video to “drive conversation”, it will be presented from BBC News’ Washington DC bureau, with journalists from around the world contributing to a broad range of issues of relevance to US audiences.
The weekly show comprises part of a previously announced US initiative from the FAANG giant to be a “destination for quality and timely news content”.
Its recently launched news platform currently hosts the likes of weekly ABC series More in Common, which aims to build bridges between people of differing backgrounds, Bloomberg’s financial series At What Cost? and BuzzFeed News’ Profile interviews.
BBC global news chief executive Jim Egan said: “Social media is an important source of news and information for many Americans, so we are always looking for new ways of bringing our audiences high quality, non-partisan news coverage they can trust from around the world.”
Facebook Watch was rolled out globally last month, one year after its US debut.
Facebook has spent the past year “refining the product”, which has included populating it with all ‘page’ videos, alongside a crop of originations.
