Broadcasting union Bectu has been forced to call off this weekend's planned strike over the sale of BBC Technology after receiving a renewed offer from its proposed buyer Siemens. The strike was due to take place for two days from Friday (30 July). Another two-day strike from 13 August, which could put live coverage of the Olympic opening ceremony in jeopardy, is still on pending a new ballot on the offer, which includes better terms and conditions and pensions. Bectu negotiators said the new offer goes a long way towards meeting their key demands. The ballot closes on 12 August.
