Moonage to follow up BBC3, Netflix and ZDFneo thriller starring Emma Myers
The BBC, Netflix and ZDFneo have ordered a second series of young adult mystery thriller A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.
Produced by The Famous Five indie Moonage Pictures for BBC3 in co-production with Netflix and ZDFneo, the 6 x 45-minute series will film in the UK next year. It is based on Holly Jackson’s book of the same name, with series one adapted for the screen by Poppy Cogan. Jackson and Cogan will jointly adapt series two.
Emma Myers (Wednesday) will return in the lead role of Pip. Determined to stay away from any more investigations, she finds herself in a race to find a key witness in the trial of the case she solved in series one after he disappears suddenly.
The first series became BBC3’s highest rating drama since its relaunch and one of iPlayer’s most watched titles with 16-24 years old. Outside of the UK, it debuted on Netflix at number one on the Global Top 10 TV (English) list. After debuting on iPlayer at the start of July, it averaged 189,000 (1%) after 28 days on BBC3.
It was ordered for the BBC by director of BBC drama Lindsay Salt and controller of youth audience for BBC3 and iPlayer Fiona Campbell. Cogan and Jackson will executive produce alongside Matthew Read, Simon Crawford Collins and Frith Tiplady for Moonage Pictures, Lucy Richer, Danielle Scott-Haughton and Katherine Bond for the BBC. The producer is Sophie Klein.
BBC Studios brokered the co-production deals with Netflix and ZDFneo and handles global distribution. It has pre-sold series two to Stan in Australia, which also has series one. Series one is also available in Germany on ZDFneo and in New Zealand on Warner Brothers Discovery’s ThreeNow.

Lindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama, said: “It’s been a joy to see the fantastic response to A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, particularly from younger viewers.
