Future series of streamer’s hit scripted show will be produced by Apple Studios

Severance producer Fifth Season has struck a deal with Apple TV for the streamer to take ownership of the multiple Emmy-winning drama.
The agreement, which was struck late last year, hands Apple all IP and rights to the series and means Severance will be produced by in-house division Apple Studios in future, with Fifth Season attached as an exec producer.
The acquisition has been valued at around $70m according to Deadline, which broke the news, and provides a boost to Apple Studios’ line-up, which already includes Your Friends and Neighbors, Stick, Sugar and Palm Royale. Several of the streamers’ other titles, such as Pluribus and The Studio, are made by third parties.
Severance’s second season debuted in January 2025 following a convoluted and costly production process. A third run of the show, created and showrun by Dan Erickson and executive produced by Ben Stiller, is now in the works, with a fourth now understood to be locked in thanks to the deal.
The deal is not the first time Apple has acquired rights to a third-party series.
It previously struck an arrangement with AMC Studios to buy sci-fi drama Silo, following its first season run. That deal, again for a costly series, meant the show’s production was taken in-house at Apple Studios, with AMC Studios exec producing.
Silo was subsequently extended into a third and fourth season.
Broadcast International has contacted Fifth Season for comment.
