Apple Studios, Merman, LuckyChap Entertainment to adapt iCarly star Jennette McCurdy’s hit memoir, with Jennifer Aniston starring

Apple TV+ is lining up a dramedy based on former child star Jennette McCurdy’s hard-hitting memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died, with Bad Sisters label Merman on-board.

Jennifer Aniston will star in the 10-part adaptation of the bestselling coming-of-age book, which explores the toxic relationship between McCurdy – who rose to fame in Nickelodeon sitcom iCarly – and her mother, and how that impacted her childhood, career and physical and mental well-being.

The 2022 work captures, in stark detail, McCurdy’s experiences during her days as a child actress on iCarly: the self-doubt and self-loathing she felt, which led to eating disorders, addiction and unhealthy relationships, all while her mother enjoyed the attention and fame that came with her daughter’s work.

After her mother dies of cancer, and McCurdy discovers therapy, the book goes on to chronicle her road to recovery and finally having ownership over her life.

Apple TV+’s eponymous series will centre on the relationship between an 18-year-old actress in a hit kid’s show, and her narcissistic mother (Aniston) who exults in her identity as “a starlet’s mother”.

I’m Glad My Mom Died comes from Apple Studios and is written, executive produced and showrun by McCurdy and Ari Katcher (Ramy, The Carmichael Show, and On the Count of Three). Merman and Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment are involved in the production.

Aniston, via Echo Films, will also exec produce alongside Sharon Horgan and Stacy Greenberg for Merman, Jerrod Carmichael, Erica Kay, and LuckyChap’s Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara for LuckyChap; Carmichael and Kay.
