BBCS NHU series to follow ancient animals’ survival through extreme climates
Apple TV+ has ordered an Ice Age-focused spin-off of its landmark natural history series Prehistoric Planet.
Produced by BBC Studios Natural History Unit (NHU), Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age is a five-part documentary that, like its parent, uses the latest scientific research and cutting-edge visual effects to bring the frozen era to life, unveiling the habitats and inhabitants of ancient Earth, from woolly mammoths and snow sloths to saber-toothed tigers and dwarf elephants.
The series follows the animals’ epic struggles and unexpected stories, with viewers taken on journeys through vast tundras, barren deserts and melting permafrost, witnessing the creatures’ battle for survival through extreme climate changes and shifting landscapes.
Jon Favreau and Mike Gunton return to exec produce the series, which will launch on the streamer on 26 November.
It is narrated by Tom Hiddleston, with an original score by Hans Zimmer, Anže Rozman and Kara Talve for Bleeding Fingers Music. The BBCS NHU was supported by the photorealistic visual effects of Framestore.
Both series of Prehistoric Planet are available to watch on Apple TV+.
