French public broadcaster to offer live channels and on demand content via Amazon service
France Télévisions has agreed a deal that will see its shows and live channels become available via Amazon’s Prime Video.
The move - dubbed a “historic distribution agreement” by the two companies - will see the France.TV service become accessible to all Prime members in France from today.
On demand content will be available as well as live broadcasts from France TV’s channels, including France 2, France 3, France 4, France 5, and France Info.
Financial details of the pact have not been revealed but it means almost 20,000 titles will be on offer, including Un Si Grand Soleil, Intervilles, and Drag Race France.
Viewers will also be able to stream sports that France TV holds rights to, including the Tour de France, the Women’s Euro 2020, and the Women’s Rugby World Cup, along with scripted series such as Surface, The Serpent and Astrid & Raphaelle.
Entertainment shows on offer range from Intervilles to Fort Boyard, while docs such as Notre Histoire de France and kids content including new seasons of Ninjago, Foot 2 Rue and Peppa Pig are also available.
Detail on how the deal has been structured is scant, aside from Prime Vide stating that its members “will benefit from a dedicated corner” on the streamer’s homepage in France.
Amazon’s Prime Video already offers access to numerous global streamers including Warner Bros Discovery’s Max and Paramount+, but it had not previously partnered with a broadcaster in France.
The deal comes just a week after Netflix revealed a tie-up with TF1 that will see the French commercial broadcaster’s content becoming available via the service.
Delphine Ernotte Cunci, president and chief exec of France Télévisions, said: “With this unprecedented distribution method, our group is taking a historic step forward in strengthening the visibility of its public service offering, enabling all audiences to discover the unique richness of france.tv in new environments.”
Christophe Deguine, managing director of Prime Video in France, added: “After Max, Paramount+, Ciné+OCS, Universal+, and MGM+, alongside 43 additional channels, we are delighted to have reached this agreement and to be able to make France Télévisions’ extensive catalogue available to all our Prime customers in France.
“We are constantly looking for new ways to expand the range of quality content available to our customers and confirm Prime Video as the number one entertainment destination.”
