Y Cyfweliad is a remake of French format The A Talks and will be produced by Cwmni Da

S4C has commissioned a Welsh language edition of The A-Talks, known in the UK as The Assembly.

The Assembly

Welsh actor Michael Sheen appeared in the BBC pilot of The Assembly, produced by Rockerdale Studios.

Y Cyfweliad is being produced by Cwmni Da, with each episode of the four-part series seeing a different Welsh celebrity being put under the spotlight by a group of neurodivergent interviewers, whose unrestricted questions will offer unique and honest perspectives.

The celebrities taking part have yet to be announced, and weekly TX expected around Christmas 2025.

Y Cyfweliad was commissioned for S4C by head of docs and specialist factual, Llinos Wynne, and Siwan Haf, who will serve as series producer.

Wynne said the format approaches disability with “warmth, humour and authenticity”.

She added: “I’m incredibly proud to have commissioned Y Cyfweliad for S4C. It’s a truly unique chat show, and one I’m genuinely passionate about. Unlike many others, the guests aren’t there to promote themselves and their work or to push any agenda. The real joy comes from the natural moments that go from deeply personal reflections to wonderfully mundane conversations, like waiting for the bus!”

The format originated from Kiosco TV and Quad Ten in France as Les Rencontres du Papotin in 2022. It has since been sold by distributor Can’t Stop Media into 13 territories, including the Netherlands, Spain, Australia, Ireland and the UK.

Damien Porte and Arnaud Renard, partners of Can’t Stop Media, said: “The Assembly continues to prove itself as a format with powerful global resonance. Its ability to highlight diverse voices and foster understanding has touched audiences worldwide.

“We’re delighted S4C is championing this important storytelling in Wales, and we’re hopeful it will achieve the same success by engaging communities in meaningful, uniquely Welsh conversations.”

The UK edition, which is titled The Assembly, is produced by Rockerdale Studios. A pilot episode featuring Michael Sheen broadcast on BBC1 last year, before ITV picked the show up for a four-part series that aired earlier this year, featuring Danny Dyer, Jade Thirlwall, Gary Lineker and David Tennant. A second, extended series is currently in the works.
