Sunset+Vine will produce free-to-air coverage
5 has acquired the rights to air Premier League side Crystal Palace’s play-off to enter the Europa Conference League.
The FA Cup and Community Shield winners are entering the competition after being demoted from the Europa League due to multi-club ownership rules. The Eagles will play Norwegian club Fredrikstad FK in a two-legged play-off on 21 and 28 August.
Sunset+Vine will produce 5’s coverage, with 16 cameras for match coverage and presentation. Executive producer Stephen Booth and FIFA World Cup Final director Jamie Oakford will lead the production, with Alex Aljoe presenting and former Crystal Palace player Joel Ward providing punditry. Build-up for the first game, which will take place at Crystal Palace’s Selhurst Park, will begin at 7:30pm for an 8pm kick off.
5 picked up the rights to the fixtures as they do not form part of TNT Sports’ UEFA package, which does include the main Europa Conference League competition, as well as the Europa League and Champions League.
Peter Angell, Sunset+Vine CEO, said: “We’re thrilled to partner with 5 again to bring the excitement of these historic matches for Crystal Palace. Our team is the best in the business of football broadcast, and we will once again be delivering the engaging viewing experience that Sunset+Vine is renowned for.”
Raphael Pendergast, acting head of sport, 5, said: “Following the success of this summer’s Club World Cup on 5, we’re delighted to be covering the opening chapter of Crystal Palace’s first ever major European campaign, live on free-to-air TV. It’s a pleasure to be working with Sunset+Vine again to bring another top-quality production to 5.”
