Broadcaster trumps Sky’s reported £10m bid
BT Sport has won the UK television rights for Tyson Fury’s rematch with Deontay Wilder, beating off a reported bid of more than £10m by Sky Sports Box Office.
BT Sport Box Office’s coverage from Las Vegas on February 22nd will be available not only to their regular customers but also for non-subscribers “through a variety of TV channels”, according to The Daily Mail.
BT televised Fury’s first bout against Wilder in December 2018.
BT hopes Fury vs Wilder 2 could smash the UK record of 1.6 million buys for Anthony Joshua’s rematch against Andy Ruiz Jr in December, which was broadcast on Sky.
The fee to watch that night as Joshua regained all his heavyweight belts was £24.95, with Sky generated some £40m in sales revenue alone before advertising income.
BT charged £19.99 for the Fury vs Wilder fight in 2018.
