Fight will be on PPV in the US and Canada, and through its subscription elsewhere

DAZN Canelo GGG 3

DAZN has announced that it will air Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Gennadiy ‘GGG’ Golovkin’s third bout this September.

Taking place 17 September, the super-middleweight fight comes after the pair drew in their first match-up and Alvarez won the second. However, Alvarez comes into this fight having just suffered only the second loss of his career, against Dmitry Bivol at light heavyweight. The venue for the fight is yet to be announced, but the first two took place in Las Vegas.

This fight will fulfill DAZN and Matchroom Boxing’s two-fight deal with Alvarez, which was announced earlier this year. The OTT platform has had to turn to PPV in the US and Canada to complete this arrangement, despite earlier marketing that it is against the idea of customers paying for individual events.

Like the Bivol fight, this bout will again be PPV in the US and Canada, with the rest of the world receiving it as part of their DAZN subscription. This is except from in Mexico, Latin America, and Kazakhstan.

Ed Breeze, EVP of rights at DAZN, said: “What a month we have had on DAZN – the biggest women’s fight of all time, an absolute barn burner on in Las Vegas, and now, the highly anticipated trilogy fight between the pound for pound King Saúl ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and one of the other biggest names in the sport Gennadiy ‘GGG’ Golovkin.

“The last two fights between these two have been up there with the very best this century and we look forward to broadcasting it to fight fans live and worldwide on DAZN.”

Chairman of Matchroom Boxing Eddie Hearn added: “The Canelo vs. GGG trilogy is the biggest fight in boxing and I am delighted to get this made for September 17.

“These are two men that bitterly dislike each other and want to end this incredible series with a blistering KO. I truly believe this will be the most thrilling fight between these two great champions and will be fireworks from the first bell to the last man standing.”
