Sky Sports has added live subtitles and descriptive audio commentary to its Premier League coverage.

Cofunded in a partnership between Sky Media and Guinness for the competition, the rollout is the broadcaster’s largest addition of accessibility features for live sport. The service has been tested and tailored for Sky Sports’ Premier League coverage, with feedback from representative users, accessibility specialists, and the Royal National Institute of Blind People.

This will see specialist commentators experienced in working with visually impaired football supporters will provide a more continuous, radio-style description of matches, helping fans follow player movement and positioning, referee signals, substitutions, crowd reactions, and other key moments.

The feature made its debut for Manchester United v Tottenham on 10 October, and the live descriptive audio commentary is now available one match-per-day in each gameweek - totalling about 109 matches over the campaign. The live subtitling is on all front-channel Premier League matches, covering approximately 210 games each season.

Audio description can be activated through using voice control, through settings > accessibility, or through the on-screen options menu. Customers can enable live subtitles through the options menu or accessibility settings. The features are available when watching on Sky+, Sky Q, Sky Glass, Sky Stream and NOW, as well as to customers watching via Virgin Media.
