Clear Cut Pictures and grading system manufacturer Edifis are co-developing software that the west London post house believes will deliver greater efficiencies to post-production workflows.

The facility is working with the Reading-based developer to improve the file accessibility and inter-operability of its Edifis F/Stop grading and finishing system with Avid systems.

Although it will first be used to streamline processes such as grading and online editing in-house, there are plans to commercialise it as a product.

“We're always trying to find efficiencies in workflow,” said Clear Cut chief executive Horacio Queiro. “This software can help identify and avoid repetitions in the post process. For example, we are developing a more efficient way of digitising media so we ingest once, then edit at online resolution with no need to conform.

He added that while other facilities may have similar workflows they do not push the service to the same degree: “We advise our clients on ways to save time and money whereas other facilities allow clients to clock up unnecessary bills.”

Clear Cut is also developing enhancements to a web-based editing application from Apace Systems. As revealed in Broadcast (16.07.08) the software allows editors to work remotely or in tandem on rushes stored at the facility. It was used recently on BBC3 show Dog Borstal.

Since he became sole owner of Clear Cut in February, Queiro said the company has amassed over£500,000 in profit which he may invest in the purchase of a Soho-based facility or shares in Edifis.
