Australian post-production firm Cutting Edge Post is setting up a UK office to offer on-location editing services to UK producers.

The new Cutting Edge base will be headed by project manager Steve Kruger, one of the company's senior reality TV specialists.

Cutting Edge has worked for Granada in the UK on I'm a Celebrity and Hell's Kitchen. Kruger said: “We believe our solution is unique and fills a niche in the market.”

Although Cutting Edge's services have been used for big reality TV productions, it aims to extend its services to include smaller, Digibeta-shot portable single camera shows.

Cutting Edge uses a tapeless workflow including EVS capture technology, Editshare storage and bespoke software. The shared system retains 900 hours of stream footage at online resolution.

On-location editing is used for fast turnaround daily shows such as Big Brother, but is also used for series that generate a lot of footage, such as Dancing on Ice.
